Crowstone St. Georges URC
Mission
We believe
- that faith in the living, loving God, revealed by the Gospel of Jesus Christ, is a solace and a comfort and that He charges us to offer that same solace and comfort to all in need or in distress. Through Christ's sustaining and continuing presence - the Holy Spirit - we receive strength, an ever present help in trouble and a challenge to live the new life in Christ.
- that Crowstone St.George's has been placed by an ever-living, loving God to be His hands and voice in Westcliff on Sea, consistently offering this solace, comfort and challenge,
- that because the Church exists to primarily for the sake of those outside it, we are called to a life of active faith. As we work for God's Kingdom, through His grace we are granted new opportunities to fulfill the commission - first given to the Apostles - to proclaim Good News to all peoples.
- that Christ is calling Crowstone St.George's anew to be His CHurch in the community and that its life must be constantly renewed and re-formed to minister to a changing world.
- that through re-styled, welcoming and accessible buildings, we will promote greater opportunities to encounter the secular world. By providing a staffed refreshment and drop-in facility together with advice, information and a Christian welcome, our available presence will offer an encounter with the living God, The secular world will be in no doubt that it enter a worshipping community for its activities.
- that through regular worship, the world of the living God should inspire, encourage and disturb us. Whilst being lively and attractive, it must contain the ever-constant Gospel message for a changing world. Although learning from our rich traditions, we are not enslaved by them. Central to our worshipping lives remains the solace, comfort and challenge of the Gospel of Jesus Christ.
- that through Ecumenism lies hope for the future - not the mere acknowledgement of other local churches but a real working together, which has as its sole object the building of Christ's Kingdom. A close relationship of all God's people in Westcliff on Sea would both pool and release resources, and effectively proclaim that Jesus is Lord.
